Milk spot II

It's a very common problem although it is said to be easily tackled one.

This is the Mint's official position: The coins are bullion coins. They are not collector coins. They are sold as one ounce of silver. The Mint knows that there is a problem. The problem has existed since 1988, when the SML coin was first introduced. The Mint says that there is nothing that they can do about the problem.

"Is a big disappointment when your so called gem quality, brilliant uncirculated coins are badly marked with these milky spots. Dealers are not interested nor is the RCM stating you buy these bullion coins by weight only. Pity the description states BUNC.
Imagine buying a brand new sports car only to find it covered in bird shit which you cannot remove and the dealer saying never mind the car performs just the same."...silverstackers

My suggestion: NEVER use silver cleaning cloth to wipe the shinny part, or scratch will left.

  2. I will suggest the same thing, I try using silver cloth to remove milkspot and it actually scratches the coin...

  4. Forgot to mention, the method is for cleaning/polishing coin, don't think it would work on milkspot, but who knows, it might work...

    1. Yes, I heard the same too. The dipping method may not be effective for milk spots. I dare not to give it a try as the chemical might have toning effect.

No, the coins shown were not mine. I cropped them over the internet.
I had very bad experience with silver cleaning clothes and I'll never use the clothes again except for my silver bars.

I heard that even sealed maple silver, the problem is still there. I hope this is not true as I've got dozen of them.

Seems that the only way to minimize milky spots is - to keep away from RCM coins, thought I'll buy few (~5)Moose coins when they are available in HK.

  6. Hi Ken
Has been quite a while not seeing your message. Are you still concentrating on your collectible?

Thank you for the link, I agree "The Long-eared Hedgehog" is the most appealing so far in the series. How adorable it is! Is there any channel to get it in an affordable price?

    咁你係咪已經集齊熊熊同貓頭鷹?

  7. Hello Yan

I was busy on home removal with my family these few months. So tired of packing/unpacking things......... T_T

I'd bought one Owl @ USD 197. The price on ebay Today is over USD 800....... I had had a chance to buy the Wolverine @ USD 400, but I gave up ~.~. Now the price has been rocketed to USD 1,700!!!!!!! CRAZY!!!!! @@@@@@@@@@

I don't think it is possible to get Hedgehog less than EUR 300 now. Some body is pre-selling it on ebay @ EUR 489. I was watching the price on PowerCoin rose from EUR 189.95 to 299.95 in these 2 weeks.....

Well, I believe that our rich neighbour is not starting to jump into this game yet. (Owl in China is ~RMB 1,950 now)

  8. Hi Ken

Previously you have primed me about the great potential of the Owl, so I missed the boat...

If Wolverine could rocket to 1700 from 400, then Hedgehog may also rise from 300 to 1200 or above. Having said that, it is still a very painful decision to place 300 bucks on this lovely coin, although I really wanna one.

  9. Hi Yan,

Yup, it is painful, but I still jumped on this boat >.< The quality of Owl give a strong confidence to me. Pick it if you love it, or it is just a gadget far beyond the spot price.
