Dragons of Legend
http://yanroyal.blogspot.hk/2012/05/dragons-berlin-and-legend.html
http://www.silvercoinstory.com

Obverse of 1986 One Ounce Eagle with date in Roman Numerals MCMLXXXVI
Eagles have Arabic Dates from 1992 Onwards
Latin Dates or Roman Numerals on American Eagles
We don't know why, but when the United States of America started issuing gold eagle bullion coins in 1986, they used Roman numerals for the dates. This lasted for V years, sorry 5 years, until 1991. From 1992 they reverted to the use of normal Arabic numerals. Our guess at the reason for the change is that very few Americans speak Latin. Even those who do probably have trouble counting with Roman numerals. Arithmetic must be even more difficult.
Date Conversion
Because not everyone can convert Roman numerals and dates to normal arabic ones, here is a conversion table:-
